Man One's Live Art Unites Downtown LA in Civic Pride

I recently took center stage during the exhilarating Los Angeles Kings playoff game 6, bringing a surge of LA Kings Fans to the Crypto.com Arena and surrounding Downtown LA. I was hired by the LA Kings to provide live art entertainment during their Fanfest event before game 6 of the NHL playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers.

I transformed a blank canvas into a vibrant mural symbolizing the hockey team's resilience and unwavering spirit. The piece showcased support for the LA Kings, inviting fans to contribute by writing messages on the interactive artwork. With a retro gold and purple KINGS graffiti design, fans eagerly joined in, forging a powerful connection between the team, their devoted supporters, and the city. This interactive art experience embodied downtown's unwavering spirit, merging sports, art, and civic pride in a vibrant celebration.

I had 3 hours to create the piece from start to finish. I had a great time painting for the Kings and the city of Los Angeles. One of the highlights of the day for me was raffling off a part of this piece I created to a lucky fan! The center of the panel had an unstretched canvas which was the part of the piece that was later raffled off.

“CHANCE OF INFECTION” is a solo exhibition of new paintings and mixed media works by Man One created as a statement on survival and resilience of the human spirit.

For the last few years, many of us have been collectively feeling an overpowering sense of fear and doom in our personal as well as interconnected lives. We now yearn to move away from the constant political barrage and social pressures of living through a pandemic, a widening gap of racial and economic inequality, and even the possibility of a Third World War on the precipice. We find ourselves struggling on how to get over the previous pain, grief, and disappointment that many of us have experienced. This exhibition invites you to join Man One through this rough journey we’ve been on and the necessity of getting passed the ugliness and sorrow to a more happy, positive, and beautiful place down the road.

US BANK TOWER: NONI OLABISI MURAL

The Los Angeles art community recently lost a great artist and muralist, Noni Olabisi. I’m a huge fan of her poignant and unapologetic murals that she painted over the years. Her signature black and white images in front of blood red background fields of color are hard to miss. Around this same time, I was commissioned to create a mural on the highest floor in DTLA on the 72nd floor of the US Bank Tower!

The good people of Silverstein Properties, who were organizing the event, allowed me to create my mural honoring Noni as my subject for the mural. It was only fitting that Noni be honored in this manner by having her image overseeing the city landscape she loved so much.

On the last day of a week long painting affair with a dozen other artists, we were treated to a once in a lifetime opportunity to climb to the helipad on the very top of the building for an amazing photoshoot and I may have also caught the highest tag on the West Coast! I was also lucky enough to be interviewed and featured by ABC Ch.7 news to help tell the story of the mural project! (Video clip below)

Special thanks to Dara and Silverstein Properties for the coordination, Allen, Joe, Alessia and the whole production crew. It was dope!
