The Los Angeles art community recently lost a great artist and muralist, Noni Olabisi. I’m a huge fan of her poignant and unapologetic murals that she painted over the years. Her signature black and white images in front of blood red background fields of color are hard to miss. Around this same time, I was commissioned to create a mural on the highest floor in DTLA on the 72nd floor of the US Bank Tower!
The good people of Silverstein Properties, who were organizing the event, allowed me to create my mural honoring Noni as my subject for the mural. It was only fitting that Noni be honored in this manner by having her image overseeing the city landscape she loved so much.
On the last day of a week long painting affair with a dozen other artists, we were treated to a once in a lifetime opportunity to climb to the helipad on the very top of the building for an amazing photoshoot and I may have also caught the highest tag on the West Coast! I was also lucky enough to be interviewed and featured by ABC Ch.7 news to help tell the story of the mural project! (Video clip below)
Special thanks to Dara and Silverstein Properties for the coordination, Allen, Joe, Alessia and the whole production crew. It was dope!
