ICE CREAM LAB MURAL

I was asked to create a mural for the new Ice-Cream Lab in Beverly Hills.  They create ice cream by instantly freezing the cream or yogurt base with liquid nitrogen which creates an awesome smokey effect.  The result is a scientific approach to ice cream-making and its done before your eyes!  Naturally the theme of a scientist in a lab came to mind.

They wanted the mural to have a graffiti aesthetic but not too hardcore so it would better appeal to their demographic.  So this is what I came up with:

The branding needed to be just right and they gave me a lot of liberty in playing with their logo and mural in general.

This was a fun gig and I look forward to painting up their other shops as the brand takes off, which I know it will.

GETTY BOOK

I was invited, along with over 100 of LA's top graff artists,  to add a page to the Liber Amicorum or "book of friends" for the Getty Research Institute. 


The oversized, one of a kind book was just recently bound and it serves as a historical overview of this moment in time in Los Angeles.  The cover has an elegant "LA" handstyle by the one and only Prime K2S!


I decided to create my piece purely in graphite like I do in my own sketch book these days.
I also decided to stay away from any of my characters.  Letters are at the core of the graffiti movement so that's what I wanted to represent.


We got to actually put our hands on books that were centuries old!


It was nice to see some of the drawings first hand and get a sense of understanding that our modern day graffiti is merely a continuing exploration of these letter forms in art.  In 200 years from now, when someone is looking through this book they will be able to appreciate the text based art that helped transform the world.


I also made sure to add my wife and kids names so that they too will live forever in the halls of the Getty. 

That day at the Getty some pretty big heavyweights were in the room.

I don't remember what the book curator from the Getty was trying to tell Seen, but it's obvious that Chaz wasn't buying it! Lol. 

Hopefully the Getty will decide to exhibit the book and some of the art from it at some point. That would be the icing on the cake!

SBS - KOREAN TV NEWS

SBS, a Korean TV news station, recently interviewed me while I painted a production with the homie HOZOI from Paris.

NIKE BHM

In celebration of Black History Month, Nike approached me to help them paint a mural to kick off an event at Gonzales Park in Compton last weekend.

They had a great image designed by Fuse Green and they asked if I could replicate it as a mural.
This was no easy task because of the level of detail especially in the background.

So I decided to create the mural using a combination of stencils, spray paint, and acrylic.

I had my boy Ando at search+resQ help me out with creating these mad stencils:


I hired the sign painting skills of the homie SINER LTS to help me out.


The result was pretty tight and seamless!




Along with the unveiling of the mural, I also led a community stencil workshop session with the kids in the neighborhood. I used some of the images from the mural as well as a few Man One specials. As you can see they ate it up!

VEGAS MAGIC: DICKIESGIRL INSTALLATION

I was tapped on the shoulder to create an original and eye grabbing installation for the Dickiesgirl booth at the Las Vegas MAGIC Show in February.

I was given 500 pairs of denim in 23 colorful styles to pull off the unique art piece. 

I decided to do two separate walls of denim. The first was a colorful spectrum blend starting in the middle with white denim that peacefully transformed from light and pastel colors to darker hues and bold colors in either direction. I chose to spray paint large graffiti text like: MAN, COI and other words that refer to my street art name and affiliated crews.


On the second wall of denim, the pants were arranged in non-sequential format.  The result was a much more abstract design.


The installation at MAGIC was a success to say the least.
